We are delighted to announce that Kate Farnell won the People’s Award at the Pfizer Excellence in Oncology Awards on 8th October.
Oncology consultants, surgeons, nurses and pharmacists from all over the UK attended the Birmingham Science Museum to witness the unveiling of the winners of the first ever national P5 Excellence in Oncology Awards.
The P5 Awards were created by the British Oncological Association (BOA), with an educational grant provided by Pfizer Oncology, to recognise and reward innovation and best practice in oncology management, education and care in the United Kingdom (UK). The awards ceremony was opened by BOA’s President, Professor Robert Coleman, and hosted by ITV’s news presenter, Nicholas Owen.
Professor Coleman, Chair of the Judging Committee, was thrilled with the success of the awards: “Being a part of these awards has been truly inspirational. We received a high number of exceptional entries, and it really was fantastic to see the great work that is going on in the British oncology arena”.
Kate was nominated by her Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Dr U K Mallick, and Nurse Consultant, Maria Vincent – both members of the Cancer Care Team at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care at Newcastle General Hospital.
